I love the gt, and really love them with those honey comb wheels.

Me too. If I get a real job sometime soon, the plan is to get an '88 Fiero GT and eventually swap in either a supercharged 3800 V6, a 3.4 DOHC V6, or possibly a Northstar V8 (in order of likelihood and preference). Though I've never driven one, and I might be fine with the stock 2.8L V6. But I'm not counting on being content for long, especially knowing the massive aftermarket out there.

That is my exact want. Except I hate the Northstars...those things are always having some problem. I work at a car dealership and those Caddy's with those engines are typically blown up anytime we take one in. Actually, I don't think I've seen one come through our lot that wasn't blown up and sent to auction or messed up with needing huge repairs. I just don't trust 'em. On the other hand, those 3800 with the S/C are bulletproof!

nothing is fine with a stock v6 2.8

I don't really trust them either, because what you said is pretty much all I've ever heard about them from the people who actually know.
But they've got that sound!
I just like the idea of having a DOHC V8 in the back of a Fiero, and Northstar would be the easiest route for that. But the supercharged 3800 would be the smart option. I've heard some great-sounding 3.4s too, so that's kind of intriguing, but they don't have the power or dependability of the supercharged 3800.

Considering that I currently drive a 3100 powered '96 Grand Prix coupe with 160hp, the Fiero having only about 20 less than that, but several hundred pounds lighter, RWD, and manual... I figure I'll be fine with it for a while. But the swap seems inevitable.

I had a 91 cavalier z24 with the 3.1. Great sound, power of a 4, drinks like a v8.
Every one I knew who had a 3.1 all had the same anti-freeze smell to them.

I have an '87 (which you can see in my profile pic...), but I just wish I had the extra cash to drop in a 3800 SC Series II and have my Getrag 5-speed built up. Then maybe even do some body mods and paint. Thank god I don't have much disposable income, because if I did, i wouldn't have it long.

Pontiac Fiero on a dragstrip? Probably a first time ever.
